Background

Cornelia Bean Ltd. was started as a tribute to Mrs. Cornelia Boon (1899-1934) who was born in Holland in the town of Broek op Langedijk, a small town north of Amsterdam. She was a bright, young lady and full of life until she succumbed to Multiple Sclerosis at the young age of 35.

Cornelia had three children with her husband Abram, and each of her children had at least one child which they named Corrie, Corina and Cory. Today, her grandchild in Canada, Cory Krul, has chosen to take on her grandmother’s name in memory of her and her short, rich life.

It is interesting to note that Cornelia came from a country that has a tremendous history in trading coffee, tea and chocolate with the world. The concept of selling tea and coffee from the single shop is unique to the Netherlands as no other country in the world would have allowed these products to invade the same retail space. But this is beginning to change. Today there are several companies in the European Union that have successfully followed the old Dutch tradition of providing quality teas, coffees and chocolates from a single location. Cornelia Bean Ltd. is one of a few in North America with the capability to roast and blend on site for those with a need to try something different.

The Krul name, on the other hand, has a long tradition in making and selling cakes and chocolates out of specialty shops in Belgium and Holland and as such has inspired the design of the present day Cornelia Bean Ltd. facility and it’s unique line of products.

Cornelia Bean Ltd. is a novel retail concept for Canada. The company was established with respect for tradition as well as the need to experiment. We are leaders in our field for providing quality, value and innovative products. We are enthusiastic in our blending of fresh and natural products in order to provide an interesting taste experience for our customers.
