Exploring Delicious Iced Teas

Exploring Delicious Iced Tea

Iced tea is a refreshing and popular beverage enjoyed by people around the world. It can be made using different types of tea, including black tea, green tea, and fruit tea etc. In this blog, we will explore the methods of making iced tea using both hot and cold techniques for each type of tea.

Black Tea (and Puerh):

Black tea is known for its rich and robust flavour. To make iced tea with black tea using the hot method, start by boiling water. Once the water reaches a rolling boil, remove it from heat and add 1 tsp per cup of black tea leaves. Let the tea steep for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavours to infuse. Then, remove the tea leaves and let the brewed tea cool to room temperature. Once cooled, pour the tea over a glass filled with ice and garnish with honey, lemon or a sprig of mint. Stir well and enjoy! (It’s best not to store this iced tea using the hot method in the fridge as the tea will become cloudy.) Delicious when served immediately over ice.

For the cold method, place 1 tsp per cup of black tea leaves in a pitcher or container. Add cold water and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. The longer the tea infuses, the stronger the flavour. Once ready, strain the tea to remove the leaves, pour over ice, and garnish as desired. This cold method offers a smoother and less bitter taste.

Green Tea, (and Oolong):

Green tea is known for its delicate and refreshing flavour, as well as its numerous health benefits. For the hot method, boil water and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Pour the hot water over 1 tsp green tea leaves and let them steep for about 3 minutes. Remove the leaves and let the tea cool to room temperature. Pour the cooled tea over ice, add a squeeze of lemon or a sprig of mint for extra freshness, and stir well. (It’s best not to store the iced tea using the hot method in the fridge as the tea will become cloudy.) Delicious when served immediately over ice.

The cold method for green tea involves a similar process. Place 1 tsp green tea leaves in a container, add cold water, and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Strain the tea, pour it over ice, and garnish to your preference. This method provides a lighter and smoother flavour profile.

Fruit Tea:

Fruit tea offers a delightful burst of flavours, making it a popular choice for iced tea. For the hot method, boil water and pour it over 2 tablespoons of fruit tea in pitcher or container. Allow the tea to steep for at least 10-20 minutes but much longer is recommended, ensuring the flavours fully infuse. Strain the tea to remove the fruit pieces and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, pour the tea over ice, add slices of fresh fruit for a vibrant touch, and stir gently.

To make fruit tea using the cold method, place 2 tablespoons of fruit tea in a container, add cold water, and refrigerate overnight. Strain the tea to remove the fruit pieces, pour over ice, and garnish with fruit slices or a sprig of mint. This method highlights the natural sweetness of the fruits, creating a refreshing and tangy flavour. For a more robust taste and flavour we recommend using the hot method for fruit teas.
